Abstract

This study aims to determine the leadership style of the Biringkanaya Sub-district of Makassar City for the 2021 period. This research is a type of quantitative research with a descriptive type with a population, namely all employees of the Biringkanya District Office, Makassar City, which amounts to 31 people. The sampling technique uses saturated sampling. Data collection techniques use interviews, observations, and questionnaires. Data analysis techniques use frequency and percentage distribution tables. The results showed that in carrying out their leadership, the Biringkanaya Sub-district predominantly used a paternalistic leadership style. The management of sub district government affairs can be carried out properly if in the organizational body of the sub-district office concerned, an effective, efficient, and innovative management system mechanism is carried out. In this case, a leader who is able to carry out his leadership role in developing the organization is needed.
Biringkanaya Subdistrict is one of the sub-districts in Makassar City whose leadership is held by a sub-district head who has been in office since 2019. In carrying out its
leadership, the Biringkanaya Sub-district is suspected of tending to make decisions directly, which is then followed by the lack of optimal implementation of duties by subdistrict officials and their supporting elements.
This is reflected in the results of research where the sub-district applies a paternalistic leadership style.
